LIVE LEBANON: 1 YEAR OF ACHIEVEMENTS!

News Description

  • Date: 19 November, 2010

UNDP LIVE LEBANON was launched on November 2009, a year ago. Since then, the initiative has grown and evolved, engaging Lebanese residing in different parts of the world in the local development of their villages and hometowns.

The objective of LIVE LEBANON is to constitute a direct link between Lebanese abroad and their country's local development needs. In the past year, LIVE LEBANON accomplished its goal by engaging different Lebanese individuals and associations abroad, from Brasil to Western Africa and including North America and Europe, to support local development in deprived areas of the country.

Today, the lives of thousands of individuals have changed thanks to the generosity of all the donors supporting LIVE LEBANON. 13 projects have been funded in the fields of Health, Environment, Income-Generating Activities, Youth and Education. Students in Al Mreyjeh (Baabda) have better access to academic and recreational facilities. Others no longer have to return home instead of staying in schools because of electric power shortages.

Hundreds of thousands of residents now enjoy better healthcare services in Meshmesh (Akkar) and Marjeyoun (Bint Jbeil) after providing the local health clinics and hospitals with necessary equipment that were lacking. Furthermore, hundreds of farmers and their families are now able to work more efficiently and produce better crops after replacing dirt canals with concrete structures that allowed for irrigation water carrying no pesticides to be transported to agricultural fields.

LIVE LEBANON improved the lives of ordinary Lebanese through fast impact projects devised to target local communities. These are LIVE LEBANON's accomplishments within a year, and with your continued support many more projects can be implemented for a young, green, healthy and prosperous Lebanon.
