Even in a country renown for the beauty of its landscape, the scenery that surrounds the village of Meshmesh is breathtaking. High in the mountains of Akkar, the remote village is reached by a series of winding roads which culminate in a view that surpasses all others.
But this very remoteness causes problems for the residents of Meshmesh. It is so high up that the roads can easily be blocked in winter, and this has damaging implications for some of its public services, especially health. There are two hospitals close by, but both are private and too expensive for the vast majority of villagers. There is only medical center in the region. It currently consists of an emergency section and a diagnostic clinic. It has preliminary ECG equipment for heart patients and a laboratory for analyzing blood that assists with cardiac and stroke conditions. It also has basic gynecological equipment, such as apparatus for monitoring the heart rate of the fetus.
But this does not go far enough if it is to provide the best health services at the lowest possible cost. There are currently 100 chronic cardiac patients, people who need to be transported 35 km to get vital hospital treatment. With your support, this will no longer be necessary. The project will provide an echo-graphic Doppler, a cardiac stress test, an ECG holter machine and a holter blood pressure recorder. A permanent physician will be brought in to monitor cases and help properly diagnose conditions. The project will also provide proper cardiac drugs at a very low cost to the patient. Overall, it is estimated that more than 30,000 inhabitants will benefit from these changes.
