UN Habitat has launched its Challenge and Asset Analysis of the Tyre caza!

The report examines the weaknesses and opportunities of Tyre in various sectors, below is a short summary of the findings.

Local Economy
- Weaknesses: under-developed irrigation systems, limited agricultural extension services, poorly promoted area for tourism purposes, migration of young population
- Opportunities: Promote the area for eco-tourism

Social, Health and Educational Services
- Weaknesses: limited number and scope of higher education and vocational institutes, poor quality of health care and education services, limited specialised healthcare in villages especially for elderly
- Opportunities: A number of healthcare initiatives at Ministries of Health and Social Affairs

Infrastructure
- Weaknesses: maintenance of infrastructure is limited, quality assurance of services is not widely practiced
- Opportunities: Active presence of development agents and donors after the 2006 war

Natural resources
- Weaknesses: limited municipal interest concerning the protection of natural assets
- Opportunities: Active presence of development agents and donors after the 2006 war

Civil society and community activism
- Weaknesses: inactive civil society organisations in most villages
- Opportunities: interest in youth development

Municipal governance
- Weaknesses: weak capacities of municipal authorities, limited human resources, limited budget and revenues, financial dependence on revenues transferred from the central government, bureaucracy
- Opportunities: wide interest in municipalities as development agents, numerous projects to build capacities of municipalities.
