August 19, 2013, Beirut: Live Lebanon-UNDP, and with the General Directorate of Emigrants, implemented yet another social development project during the month of August. The project falls in line with Live Lebanon’s commitment to implement sustainable solutions through high-impact projects that target the most disadvantaged communities across the nation.

The project was inaugurated in the Bekaa Valley and included the towns of Der el Ahmar, Btedhi, and Bechwet, all three of which are suffering from a noxious garbage crisis.

Live Lebanon-UNDP, represented by Goodwill Ambassador Mr. Fadi Salama, in cooperation with Der el Ahmar’s mayor unveiled new trucks for waste collection and disposal. MP Elie Kayrouz was also present and stood alongside representatives from BBAC to witness the community’s heartening reaction to this long-awaited project.

“This initiative will continue to operate at full capacity to support development in various sectors,'' stated Mr. Salama, “To be able to do so, we ask the support of all Lebanese, whether current residents or expatriates. A simple contribution can result in a significant change for the better”.

With the new garbage trucks, the towns can alleviate the financial burden of maintaining the outworn old trucks, and can discontinue the nearby dumping and toxic burning of garbage, therefore reducing environmental problems plaguing the residents of the Bekaa Valley.
