How it Began

The heroic actions of the Civil Defense volunteers saved many lives and preserved what is left from our forests. In October 2019, 140 fires ravaged thousands of hectares of trees. Equipped only with an iron will, those heroes managed to save the day.

Citizens started supporting the efforts of the volunteers and asked for better equipment for the Civil Defense.

How it Works

UNDP Live Lebanon with its partners Bank Audi, LBCI, NRSC and Champs Fund provided earlier this year Moto Ambulances for the Civil Defense which led to improvement in their response to medical emergencies. Currently 16 Moto Ambulances are operational and a total of 56 will be delivered by October 2020.

On August 7,2019 the firefighters tested an advanced firefighting backpack Tayoune and later that night responded to an emergency call in Ashrafiyeh. Using the motorcycle to quickly reach their destination, they extinguished a fire in a car using the backpack.

The backpack allows significant reductions in response time because of it light weight, better accessibility and efficient firefighting thus helping controlling small to medium fires. The unique design of the system allows it to be used with all types of breathing apparatus systems. The combination of the superior water mist & CAFS extinguishing technology and an ultralight Carbon fibre cylinder has allowed it to be one of the most effective backpack systems currently available on the market.
