How it Began
It is essential to highlight the issues that are going unnoticed on rural grounds, especially those concerning hunting. In Lebanon, 25 million cartridges per year are being left on hunting fields, leaving them in utter waste and adding to the numerous pollution problems in the country. Thanks to the support of Goodwill Ambassador Saada Fakhry, Live Lebanon, in collaboration with the National Committee of Lebanese Women and Live Love Beirut, performed more than 30 hunting cartridge cleanups to raise awareness of the negative environmental impacts of cartridge waste. This initiative acts as an initial step towards reducing the effects of pollution on the environment.
How it Worked
Through the dedication and hard work of our 1,200 volunteers from Lebanon, Jordan, Lybia, Germany, Tunisia, and 10 local schools, we managed to collect over 5.5 million hunting cartridges (39 Tons) from 31 locations throughout Lebanon. Live Lebanon GWA Mrs. Saada Fakhry donated 50,000$ through a click-fund campaign that financed all the volunteering activities as well as a cartridges recycling machine that was built by NDU students. This machine began operation on 20 March 2019 with the generous efforts of NGO L’Ecoute, who is committed to safely storing, operating and maintaining the machine.
